Chicago’s Luxury Hotels Steal the Spotlight in Michelin’s Latest Ranking

Chicago’s hotel scene just earned a standing ovation from Michelin. In its newest list of top U.S. stays, the famed guide—known for its restaurant stars—handed out Michelin Keys to the country’s most exceptional hotels, and Chicago came out shining.

Three of the city’s finest—The Langham Chicago, Pendry Chicago, and The Peninsula Chicago—each received two Michelin Keys, a mark of excellence for comfort, design, and service.

The Langham, located on North Wabash Avenue, held onto its two-key status for the second straight year. Michelin highlighted the tranquil Chuan Spa and Travelle, the hotel’s Mediterranean-inspired restaurant, calling it a perfect mix of sophistication and ease. The hotel’s team credited their success to a culture of care and attention to detail that defines every guest experience.

Just a few blocks away, Pendry Chicago impressed Michelin with its modern elegance and thoughtful extras—think in-room espresso machines, Bluetooth speakers, and a well-stocked bar. Add to that a rooftop cocktail destination, Château Carbide, and the French-inspired brasserie Venteux downstairs, and it’s clear why this Loop landmark made the cut.

The Peninsula Chicago rounded out the city’s two-key winners with high praise for its serene Shanghai Terrace restaurant and sweeping views of the Magnificent Mile. Its blend of refined hospitality and understated luxury continues to make it a Chicago classic.

Four more local favorites—Chicago Athletic Association, The Gwen, Viceroy Chicago, and Waldorf Astoria Chicago—each earned one Michelin Key, further cementing the city’s status as a powerhouse of hospitality.

Beyond Illinois, Indiana’s Bottleworks Hotel and Ironworks Hotel, both in Indianapolis, also snagged one key apiece.

According to Michelin, its Key awards spotlight hotels that go beyond simple comfort, recognizing those that create lasting memories through design, service, and authenticity. Judging by this year’s results, Chicago isn’t just keeping up—it’s leading the way.
